IL MEGLIO DEL 2013 SECONDO LA REDAZIONE DI TOMTOMROCK
Un anno di conferme, consolidamenti e ritorni: così può essere descritto il 2013. Gli Arcade Fire, il cui Reflektor è nostro disco dell’anno, mostrano come al quarto album abbiano ancora idee da elaborare e territori da esplorare. Anche altri artisti con una carriera relativamente lunga alle spalle danno l’idea di non temere l’usura (Arctic Monkeys) o di saper uscire da una fase di appannamento (Franz Ferdinand), mentre si confermano menti creative e sofisticate due nomi di spicco della giovane Inghilterra cupa quali James Blake, che lavora sempre meglio sulla forma-canzone, e These New Puritans, che lasciano il suono industriale per un’ambient diafana ma anche piena di sprazzi abbaglianti. Quasi inutile invece citare i ritorni col botto dei super-veterani David Bowie e Daft Punk, se non per far notare come in entrambi i casi non ci sia stato bisogno della presenza fisica dei diretti interessati per creare hype: Bowie non ha concesso interviste e i Daft Punk non si sono tolti il casco. L’unico aspetto un po’ carente dell’annata è rappresentato dagli esordi di peso, con uniche eccezioni Savages, King Krule ed Earl Sweatshirt. È grazie a quest’ultimo che entra in gioco la considerazione più significativa da fare a proposito del 2013 sonoro. Nei nostri Top 20 redazionali figurano infatti ben cinque album di artisti rap: Kanye West, Tyler, Danny Brown, Eminem e, appunto, Earl Sweatshirt. Si tratti di titoli molto diversi fra loro dal punto di vista sonoro e in grado di dimostrare come proprio da questo settore, vituperato per default da stampa e appassionati rock, arrivino segnali di ipertrofica creatività sia dal punto di vista sonoro (su tutti la potenza apocalittica di Yeezus di Kanye West) sia da quello testuale. A tale riguardo una precisazione: chi si fermi al fatto che in queste canzoni le donne vengono spesso chiamate “bitch” (peraltro con la stessa convinzione con cui i fidanzatini italiani di oggi si chiamano fra loro “amo”) o agli aspetti classicamente tamarri del mondo hip hop, perde di vista una ritrattistica sociale cruda, dolente e di grande efficacia, che passa in rassegna tanto gli ambienti agiati descritti in New Slaves di Kanye (nostro “testo del mese” in luglio) quanto quelli disperati del Danny Brown di Wonderbread. Infine non si può non parlare dello “spettro” che aleggia sulla nostra classifica 2013: pubblicato a nome Détroit, Horizons segna il ritorno alla musica di Bertrand Cantat dopo le tragiche, agghiaccianti vicende a tutti note. Non è questo l’ambito per considerazioni di carattere morale; tuttavia è indiscutibile che ci si trovi di fronte a un lavoro di “terribile bellezza”.
