Insieme a Mike Heron ha dato vita a dischi memorabili fra folk sballato e world music ante-litteram come The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter (1968) e Liquid Acrobat As Regards The Air (1971). Splendido è l’album Songs Of Love and Parting, del 1981 .

Caro Antonio,

Prima di Before Trusting in The Rising ho inciso Love Will Remain per la Quadrant Records.

Dear Antonio,
Trusting in the Rising Light is the fourth album I have made for this great label [ECM].
The first one -Seed at Zero – was a selection of my own songs plus my settings of Dylan Thomas poems together with other poets inspired by the Celtic tradition.
In abstract painting statements are made about shape colour and paint itself. In the Celtic tradition there is a similar concern with words themselves ,their sound and colour as well as their meaning. This was a characteristic of Dylan Thomas’ work and is something I have used a lot in my own writing over the years.
The second record for ECM – Skirting the River Road – Is concerned with the lyrics of other poets mainly William Blake and Walt Whitman in conjunction with my songs. The third record -The Ironstone – is also a collection of settings of various poets together with my own work.
All these records were produced by Steve Lake who originally contacted me about the idea of performance with improvising musicians and a spontaneous and freeform approach, just taking some words and letting the music flow in the moment.

In my teens I always loved the spontaneous stream of consciousness writing of Jack Kerouac. And I believe that something like this was always part of the Bardic/ Druidic tradition: the idea of an inspired voice. The idea that the concept of prophecy could be understood as a new vision of the present.
The most recent record – Trusting in the Rising Light- is a collection of my own songs written over the summer of 2013 and recorded in January 2014. It features harp as my main instrument. This album has a lot of spontaneous music as well as prepared music.
It’s very much what I have to say. At the age of 71 I have my attention on the wonderful miracle and gift of life, with the beauty of the natural world and on gratitude to the Great Creator. The album is about that. It’s also in every way a love song to my beautiful wife and long-time musical partner, singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist, Bina Williamson.
My album before Trusting in the Rising Light was Love Will Remain on Quadrant records. It features a book with a selection of my recent paintings some of these are on the website.

Best wishes
Robin Williamson
